In Middle Ages, university was not only a place where students could study but also an organization which could reflect that time more perfectly and exactly even than the church and feudal system. University was born in Middle Ages and now it has become a steady, regulated and non-personalization system, so a thoroughly new academic style has formed in university.For a rather long time, the research on university has not been sufficient. The relationship among university, church and the Middle Ages was neglected too. Especially in China, being restricted by the traditional prejudices, many researchers regard the Middle Ages as the Dark Ages and view Europe's Christian as the typical representative of the Dark Ages. So the image of university was strongly twisted from this angle. In their research, university was described as an opposition to that time.As a unique time, the Middle Ages connected the ancient civilization and modern civilization. It is the Middle Ages that the modern time originated from and developed in .The special time made great contributions to the birth of modern society. And the emergence of university is the best example. Church has significant influence in Middle Ages, It is a basic point and the research fundament to be clearly aware of the relationship between the church and university in Middle Ages. But as far as current studies are concerned, the related research is still blank. In this paper, the writer will attempt to do some exploration on this issue.The Catholicism originated from Hebraic culture, which has combined the culture of ancient Greece and culture of ancient Roman long before the Middle Ages. After the end of the Ancient Times, Catholicism was the one kindling in preserving and spreading the ancient culture.Before the rise of universities, the Church managed education traditionally. In the development of the university, the Church has playing an important supportive role at many aspects. The Pope, the leader of the church, protected universities to fight against the dictator government, even the king. Popes established many new universities and set rules for them. Under these support from the Church, universities stood independently and freely.The mediaeval universities had many privileges, such as: right of dwelling, judicial power of autonomy, right to boycott, right of migration, franchise and exemption from escuage.
