Nowadays university mission causes the higher education sector great interests. From the management science perspective, mission is the primary job to be planned. However, in the practice of university management, university mission is often put away. There is a confliction between thoughts and practice. How to formulate a scientific university mission and how to ensure that university mission will be in practice are the core issues that we contemplate.Mission Management is a new theory combining mission with management practice. It can provide new ideas and new university management perspective to enhance the performance of university management. It is a response to people's hot concerns to discuss the application of Mission Management in the university.The author tries to provide a theoretical framework and practical model of Management Mission for university. The full text concludes four chapters:Chapter I reviews the history of Mission Management theory which is divided into three phases: Drucker starting point, Hesselbein conversation signs and Medina system, then the course of Mission Management theory is displayed completely;Chapter II is about the systematic analysis to Mission Management. It describes Mission Management's concepts, features, elements, and the applicable conditions. The author inherits the predecessors' views and develops a new understanding;In Chapter III, starting from the universal and general focus, the author explores specific aspects of the application of university Mission Management. University organizations identity makes it superior and necessary to apply Mission Management; the specific analysis of Mission Management's elements in a university and the discussion on how to ensure its effective application make it more targeted.In Chapter IV, the transformation from the general to the specific is discussed. Combing "E" University in Shanghai, the author interprets conditions and measures in a specific university for applying Mission Management theory, which provides a concrete basis for the preceding theory.
