On Cultivating The College Culture In China

With the further development of higher education modernization, the conventional college culture has confronted the challenges, influenced by a series of factors such as alien culture, information explosion and college mergence. As a result, strengthening the study of college culture has become an urgent need for the development of higher education.In the era of information economy, the concept of the college culture has been attached to new connotations, characteristics and functions. This paper has conducted deep research into the fundamentals of college culture from the perspective of 21st strategies. The essence of college is a cultural phenomenon, is a cultural institution with unique functions, existing together with social economy and political organizations. College culture, directed by advanced social cultures and carried by college, is the summation of physical and spiritual achievements accumulated by the college. It develops successively and continuously. Colleges should possess the classic characteristics of being sacred, ideal, academic, critical and traditional.This paper aims to give enlightenments for cultivating the college culture in our country by comparing the culture features between western and Chinese colleges and by analyzing the cases of western college culture. Although the states and systems are different, the principles of operating colleges should be the same. Therefore, many of foreign college culture construction experiences are worthwhile for our universities and colleges to use for reference, so as to cultivate the college culture model fit for the actual situation in our country.
