This thesis attempts to answer the needs for qualified personnel required by the development of society, go with the stream of reformation in Elementary Educational Course and adjust to the disadvantage of the traditional teaching methods. Based on modern Pedagogy and Psychology, the experimental research on developing learner autonomy was canied out in the course of two emester. The thesis is developed in five chapters in the order of empirical research papers, that is, analyzing the previous research reports, advancing the problem, carrying out the experiment, analyzing and interpreting the data and at last putting forward conclusions and implications. In the brief introduction, the author focuses on the background of the research, analyzes the limitations on autonomous learning either at home or abroad and at last puts forward the research problem and the methods of the research. In Chapter 2, the author does a full and accurate book review and evaluates a lot of the related literature in detail, defines the term of autonomous learning and clarifies the characteristics of the issue and the theoretical basis for the research. The paper lays emphasis on the theory research about autonomous learning in senior chemistry teaching, which is also the requirement in the reformation of the basic education called for by the new curriculum. It is also required by the development of the modern education, as well as the reformation in the senior chemistry teaching, which makes this kind of research more important than ever. What is more, the author also tries to construct the senior chemistry teaching model of developing autonomous learning.By comparing the results and autonomous learning ability after the experiment with those before the experiment, the author evaluates the effect of developing learner autonomy. The data shows that developing autonomous learning can foster the students' sense of learning at their own, arouse their interest in learning, change their way of learning, improve their learning quality and prepare the students for lifelong learning and development ahead.
