Improving students' reading ability is one of the objectives of senior English teaching. But the fact is that many senior high school students' reading ability is far below where it should be, and the discrepancy between them is great. This has drawn close attention of many teachers and researchers working in this field. Based on a questionnaire investigation in light of relevant theoretical guidance, this paper has made a brief study on senior high school students' English reading. It focuses largely on reading strategies, illustrating the necessity of learning reading strategies on the part of the students so that specific approaches can be determined for our instruction. Five sections are included in the paper:In Chapter One, a brief introduction is given, with a brief analysis of studies related to the improvement of senior high school students' reading ability.Chapter Two presents a literature review. Based on Cognitive Learning Theory and Schema Reading Theory, the paper illustrates the significant role that learning strategy plays in second language acquisition. Reading strategy employment results in efficient reading comprehension. From the cognitive perspective, reading strategies may begin as declarative knowledge, and then turn into procedural knowledge with repeated practice. Once turned to be procedural, reading strategies benefit students in improving their reading ability.
