In recent years, with the development of economic globalization and Chinese reformation, bilingual education, which aims at the improvement of English level, has begun in many parts of China so that it has become the hot topic of Chinese educational reformation. One important thing in bilingual education is textbook edition, for textbook is an important basis for teaching, the primary information resources for students and the instrument for students' study. Therefore, the quality of the textbook determines the quality of bilingual education.In the first half of the 20th century, the theory of textbook had been popular abroad and brings its instruction function into full play. China has been attaching importance to the construction of textbook theory, however, owing to the fact that it started a little late, especially to that bilingual education is still in its primary state, the study of textbook theory is still not sufficient. Therefore, this paper attempts to explore the textbook evaluation theory based on the bilingual textbook of Primary Living and Science.Based on the exploration and study of textbook evaluation theory—bilingual education theory, second language acquisition theory, content-based instruction theory and students' study theory, guided by the Syllabus of National Basic Courses and in the light of the aim of science course and the criteria for English in full time compulsory education, this paper establishes the evaluation criteria for bilingual textbook of primary science. The principle for evaluation, the questionnaires obtained from Suzhou Foreign Languages School, the interviews with the teachers in the school all contribute to the systematic evaluation of the bilingual textbook of Primary Living and Science, and reasonable references and suggestions are provided for the problems existed in the textbook and appeared in the process of teaching.
