The university teachers' teaching ability refers to a kind of both general and individual psychological characteristic that is a must for teachers to finish their teaching activities smoothly and to influence their teaching quality and efficiency directly. The university teachers' teaching ability, which is based on intelligence, is the combination of common ability and special ability. It represents as a multidimensional and complex structure. In terms of pedagogy, it mainly comprises teaching designing ability, teaching organizing ability and teaching researching ability. From the point view of psychology, it includes teaching cognitive ability, teaching operational ability and teaching supervisory ability. In terms of sociology, it mainly consists of teaching communicative ability and continuative self-education ability etc. The teaching researching ability, teaching innovational ability and ability to combine scientific researching production with teaching, which represent prominent characteristics of university teachers' teaching abilities are three characteristic teaching abilities. The demonstrational analysis on a series of questionnaires shows that the university teachers are lack of some concrete teaching abilities to some extent in our country. It basically represents as follows: lack of teaching innovational ability, teaching research consciousness, teaching supervisory ability and ability to combine scientific researching production with teaching, etc. By excavating some deep-seated reasons to cause the lack of abilities as above, using foreign countries' experience for reference and contacting higher education practice in our country, the author brings forth some strategies. From macroscopical angle, the government should strengthen conception, clarify principles and keep balance between university teaching and scientific research for cultivation of university teachers' teaching abilities. In terms of midscopical angle, universities should advocate admittance for teaching position, pre-service campus-based training and in-service training. From microscopical point, the individual university teachers should improve their vocational moral standard and take effective teaching-reflection by themselves.
