The new curriculum reform advocates that teachers are the skillful originators and developers of his curriculum, instead of the accepters and performers. The key to implement this new philosophy of curriculum is to use some new ideas on teaching materials. Therefore, teachers should be empowered to redevelop the teaching materials, and it's quite necessary for teachers to use teaching materials creatively during the process of teaching.According to the character and features of the subject "Morality and Society", the Social Studies teachers should be more voluntary and more skillful to redevelop teaching materials. But in fact they have many problems to perform the roles. Because they have little curricular resource and they are unprofessional. This dissertation, aiming at solving these problems, intends to supply some theoretical and practical guidance for teachers.The dissertation includes five parts in all.First of all, the background of the research is outlined in the introduction. Then, the object of this research is clearly defined. The creativities, approaches and significance of the research are introduced in this part.In chapter one, it reconfirms the character and the function of teaching material, Then defines some important concepts such as "teaching material" , "development of teaching materials" on the basis of former researches by other scholars. At last, it analyzes the differences between "development of teaching materials" and "instructional design".In chapter two, it analyzes the necessary of developing Social Studies teaching material based on children's exigent desires from two points. One is the character and features of the subject; the other is the requirements of effective teaching. Finally, it advices that the development of teaching materials should take three points into account: the interests , exigent desires and the abilities of your children.In chapter three, it introduces two methods of the development of Social Studies teaching materials based on children's exigent desires: the adjusted development and the created development. As for the adjusted development, its strategies , dimensions and techniques based on a case will be discussed . Lastly, it elaborates the important factors of the created development by analyzing several cases.Finally, it illuminates what development of teaching materials based on children's exigent desires means to the role transformation of teachers and students.
