Our government and the public have been focusing on the problems of the poverty-stricken students and a variety of measures have been taken to solve these problems. For example, our government has enacted various policies to offer financial aid for the poverty-stricken students. Meanwhile, universities have made efforts to establish and improve the system of financial aid. Besides, some sectors of society also set up some aiding funds at university. In a way, it is true that the work of the poverty-stricken students is in full swing and gains some effect. However, with the implementation of the aid-the-poverty-stricken-students programs, the problems of the poverty-stricken students and its influence on society, the university and their development do not disappear, but to surface. This brings on the educators' introspection. In recent years, as the financial situation of the poverty-stricken students is improving. It is not the financial problem that needs urgent solutions, but the various mental, psychological and development problems, especially after the education of the students at universities directly under the Chinese Ministry is free of charge from the second part of 2007 on. So enhancing the education of the poverty-stricken students brooks no delay. This paper explores the problems in the education of the poverty-stricken students and the feasible ways to solve these problems so as to improve the effectiveness of the education of the poverty-stricken students, which are also the problems educators face now.The paper can be divided into three parts. The first part mainly expounds the importance and urgency of the education of the poverty-stricken students. The writer, after a scan of the phenomenon of the poverty-stricken students and an analysis of the main problems of the poverty-stricken students, elucidates that the education of the poverty-stricken students concerns not only their healthy development, the smooth implementation of the reform of higher education and the realization of the aim of higher education, but also the stability and harmony of the family, university and society.The second part emphasizes on analyzing the problems of the education of the poverty-stricken students and the causes,Four points are put forward in this paper about the problems in the education of the poverty-stricken students. They are: the separation of financial aid and educational aid, the neglect of enhancing the comprehensive quality of the poverty-stricken students, the vague demarcation of the poverty-stricken students and the lack of a matching environmental supporting system. These problems are causes by a variety of reasons: a superficial understanding of the poverty-stricken students, the insufficient practical experience on the education of the poverty-stricken students and the insufficient theoretical research on the poverty-stricken students.The third part explores the countermeasures to improve the education of the poverty-stricken students and advances 3 measures: developing ideological and political education which centers on their ideological and mental problems, establishing a long-term effective mechanism of the education of the poverty-stricken students through the inspiration of financial aid to the poverty-stricken students and the practice of education and co-education and establishing the social supporting system by improving the social financial aid system and optimizing the educational environment, which are also the essence and the purposes of this paper.
