Research On The Psychology Of College Students In Career Selecting

Career selecting is an important process of entering the society for college students during which their all-round qualities, especially the psychological quality, are tested. With the expending enrollment of colleges and universities, the reform of employment policy and the gradual increase in the number of graduates, it is necessary to study student's psychological characteristics and their impact on career selecting. As a result, to guide college students how to seek appropriate career not only concerns their social value and career orientation, but also influences their motive of study ,performance and chance of success in career selecting.Based on some-relevant information and the theories of career development and career selection, this thesis makes both the qualitative analysis and the quantitative analysis to survey the situation of career selecting of graduates from NanTong four colleges in 2005 in the form of self-made questionnaire .It can be noticed after the analysis that the psychological characteristics of college students in selecting career are both positive and negative. They are self-conscious and reasonable in selecting career and have obvious value orientation. At the same time, some students have such negative characteristics as having pressure, anxiety, fear, blind follow, impulsiveness, conceit, sense of inferiority, eagerness of stability etc. There are various reasons for these negative characteristics, including social, economical problems and those from colleges and enterprises. The main reason lies with students themselves. Such as low comprehensive quality, weak psychological quality, insufficient courage facing employment, over valuing the fame of career, paying particular attention to equivalent professions , excessively thinking of the stability of career and high expectation for having a job in popular areas and fields.In order to lessen the psychological pressure from career selecting and raise the rate of success in career selection. The writer thinks that joint participation of society family and college should be needed . First of all, college should guide students how to select career in various ways and instruct them to take right attitudes towards career. In addition, it should improve its teaching pattern for the cultivation of consciousness of doing pioneering work and create opportunities of social activities and social practice for students so that they can be more competitive in the society. Secondly, as far as the society is concerned, it should pay much attention to college students selection of career, keep up a sustained development of economy, provide as many opportunities of employment as possible, practice a strict policy of employment permission, perfect the sharing mechanism of education expenses, produce and distribute "human resources" according to the system of market and quicken the setting up and perfection of social ensurement system. Lastly, college students should improve moral, cultural professional, physical and psychological qualities, develop social, creative abilities and ability of applying knowledge, strengthen self-confidence and maintain mental health, adapt the attitude toward selecting career, learn to self-value and self-orient and strengthen the ability of fighting against frustrations.
