In the process of teaching reform, all countries scholars and governments are aware of that the success of the education reform and the education quality depend on teachers.Teacher's professional development has became research focus in the field of education and the focus problem of the society currently. The self-directed learning of teacher is the basis and precondition of teacher's professional development.The self-directed learning of teacher imples a process that the teacher have strong learning motivation, and choose valid learning strategy in order to improve educational and teaching level. The school of the teacher working have an important influence on the self-directed learning of teacher. Therefore, the study of the self-directed learning of teacher and the influence of school has the important fulfillment meaning and theories value.By use of bibliographic analysis, semi-structured interview and questionnaires survey, we compiled the self-directed learning of primary school teacher questionnaire and teacher learning atmosphere questionnaire. Using these questionnaires and job characteristics questionnaire, we studied the self-directed learning of teacher condition and the influence of teacher learning atmosphere and job characteristics on it. The conclusions are as follows:1. The self-directed learning of primary school teacher questionnaire contains learning motivation sub-questionnaire and learning strategy sub-questionnaire, composing of six factors: enterprise, learning value, and team learning, personal communicate learning, modern technique and reading. It has good reliability and validity. The teacher learning atmosphere questionnaires also has good reliability and validity.2. The self-directed learning of primary school teacher has significant differences in the demographic variables: the scores of the teacher in the city had more higher than the teacher in the country; the scores of the female teacher had more higher than the male teacher, except team learning and learning value; the scores of the teacher of teaching age at 4~9 had more lower than the others; the scores of the teacher of 36~40 years had more higher than the others. 3. The school teacher learning atmosphere was positively significantly correlated with the self-directed learning of primary school teacher. The job characteristic was negative significantly correlated with it. The school teacher learning atmosphere and the job characteristics had predicatively function on the self-directed learning, first, learning atmosphere; secondly, the social prejudice and the busy feeling.Finally, put forward some suggestions: the educational police should set up good social atmosphere for teacher learning; establish superior teacher learning atmosphere to provide the learning resources and opportunity to learning; the teacher should integrate learning and working.
