Qualifications And Roles Of Middle School Teachers' In English Language And Culture Teaching

The importance of teaching culture in teaching English is widely acknowledged in this circle. Moreover, the purposes and significances of teaching English language culture have been deeply discussed by many scholars, as well as the contents, methods and strategies. Based on the previous researches, this thesis attempts to analyze the present situation of teaching English culture in senior middle school to investigate the teacher's role in teaching English culture.This thesis consists of five parts.The first part is introduction, which reviews the related theories and concepts, induces the present situation of teaching English culture in senior middle school, explains the background, purposes and significances, methods and objects of this research. And it also makes a necessary explanation about analyzing the role of teacher's in terms of culture learning.The second, third, forth and fifth parts discuss the role of teacher's in teaching English culture in senior middle school in details. The author chooses the learning process to be the benchmark in order to gain the pertinence and visualizability. In teaching culture, the teacher is not just a person can teach, but a person with the names of observer, guide, arbiter and co-learner, etc. The obligation of the teacher is to accompany, lead and encourage the students in the process of teaching English culture.According to the observation of the author, the English education of senior middle school today has shifted from the teacher's orientation to the student's orientation successfully. However, it still neglects the infiltration of English culture, which includes three layers'culture-inputs and different layer of culture-input in different stage of teaching. Therefore, teaching English culture in senior middle school brings the new requests on teachers. So the author discusses the new qualifications of teacher's companying with the role analysis, and also with some snatches of teaching.In the conclusion part, the author reflects the disadvantages of this thesis, and raises some suggestions and hopes.
