The sports public relations (PR) are arts that sports organization and representatives unit to strive for their survival and development, and important ways for them to manage the relations between the public and themselves.In today's world, public relations pervade every field and have showed startling power and tremendous impact. There is no exception in field of football. The events in 2000, such as referee's unfair decision, losing score intentionally, footballers'personal quality and ways of action, the n ational football team's performance in World Cup, and so on, make the public dissatisfy with Football Association's (FA) management, and lead to crisis of confidence to FA, which hurt FA's public image unprecedentedly. At last, to some degree, FA alleviated the crisis and maintain it's public image and prestige through a series of public relations work, including putting an full emphasis on the importance of communication and coordination, making good use of various channels to have a sincere interaction with the public, strengthening management and timely investigations on those cases, as well Mr. Yan shiduo's face-to-face communication with the public in CCTV5"Five Rings in the Middle Night".However, there are many problems in PR on Chinese football at present. For example, we can often see the clash between FA and club, the disagreement between club and coaches, the dispute on the fields between coaches and players, besiegement to referees in the fields led by coaches, insult to correspondents in press conference, and refusals to sign name for fans, and so on. Based on these problems, the author launches an investigation and analysis on the current situation of the professional football coaches'ability to PR in china and the ability they should own, seeking to find out the weakness, problems, especially the roots that make us lay behind and thus find out ways and countermeasures to improve it.This thesis defines public relations and professional football coach's ability to PR respectively, which have gain experts'approval. The former refers to a communicative and coordinating process that a social organization and preventatives does with its members for their good development. The latter refers to the ability displayed when coach communicate and coordinate with the public for the good of the club and players, which simply put, is coach's ability to harmonize various PR.The thesis launches a research on Chinese professional football coaches, buy means of literature study, consultation to experts, contrastive study, logic reasoning, as well as case study. Based on the analysis, we consider coaches'skillful PR ability is advantageous to remove obstacle, create good environment for team's success; to establish good public image for club and coaches; to strengthen communication and coordination among different bodies; to resolve emergency for team; gain social understanding and support; and to develop mass medium's publicity, restriction and surveillance. On the basis of investigation and analysis on the current situation and the PR ability coaches should own, we consider a qualified professional football coach should have strong ability to harmonize the relationship among FA, club and players; to deal with mass medium's fake, fans'criticism and referees'unjust decision; to publicize and resolve clashes voluntarily using mass medium; to gain support from fans and society; to deal with emergency. We also find out factors that obstruct the development, including low PR awareness of Football Association and club; their insufficient attention and training to professional football coaches'ability on PR, lack of the subject on PR and coaches'inappropriate action in coach training books, and so on. Then we propose some principles, such as principle that put the public and public image first, communicative and harmonious principle, sincere and mutual-benefit principle, differently treating principle and long-term principle. We can improve the coaches'PR ability by means of improving their awareness; strengthening training them on PR theory and techniques and improving their skill in dealing with various public relations.As the development of Chinese professional football, FA and club enhance training on coaches'PR ability. We believe the current situation will be bettered in near future.
