Multi-culture is a major feature of modern society. In 1920s, the term"multi-culture"appears in the West, and in the fifties and the sixties it became a trend of thought. In the eighties, many sociologists and educationists began to pay attention to the relationship between multi-culture and education. Due to that, the phrase"multicultural education"became a common word. As the main carrier of spreading minority nationality culture, what should local teaching materials do in order to adapt this change? This problem needs considering. This thesis analyzes the local teaching materials widely used in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and see through the traditional cultural education of minority nationality in attempting to provide a new perspective for the study of nationality culture and education and a new route to the reform and development of elementary education in this region. From the angle of education, this thesis analyzes the traditional culture in local teaching materials, and adds up the types of traditional national culture appearing in those materials. Through the analysis of the results of the statistics, it tries to find out the reasons, gives some reference to the revision of the new local teaching materials, and further, to promote the development of the elementary education in minority nationality areas. It includes the following four parts.The first part deals with the definitions of some concepts, the literature review of the status quo and also the relationship among culture, education and teaching materials. Culture not only constitutes the contents of education but also the environment of education. Education is also the major way of transmitting, carrying forward, and developing nationality culture. As the core of curriculum, teaching materials directly embodies and works as the carrier of nationality cultural experience and achievements in national culture.The second part discusses the types of traditional culture in the present local teaching materials in Guangxi. According to the classification of traditional culture of minority nationality in"Chinese General Minority Nationality Culture", there are six categories. This part analyzes the contents of those teaching material from these six latitudes.The third part makes a statistical analysis on all kinds of traditional culture and the pictures referring to those cultures discussed in"Guangxi Section"of"Guangxi Society", which points out the positive contributions and deficiencies of these teaching materials when dealing with traditional nationality cultural education.The fourth part first transforms the contents of the nine editions of"City Section"of"Guangxi Society"into six types of traditional nationality culture. Next, it compares and analyzes them under the help of text and at last, points out the aspects in each edition that we can make use of when referring to transmitting the traditional nationality culture. In summary, this thesis analyzes the reasons of the shortcomings of those teaching materials, in hope of laying some light to those people revising the materials and engaging in nationality culture education.
