In order to meet the requirement that vocational education should be moreadaptive to the economic restructuring and the developing of townships, the nationalgovernment calls for a new notion that vocational education shall be oriented byemployment. Under this notion, the reform of English teaching in vocational schoolwill be necessary. Through the study, the author was exposed to a large number ofnew thoughts and new theories of foreign language teaching, especially thecooperative learning, which greatly aroused her interest.Cooperative learning has been developed and researched for decades in foreigncountries, but it is still new in China's Secondary Vocational School. This thesisfirstly makes the study of cooperative learning at the theoretical level, reports thedeep study of cooperative learning theory, carries on the discussion of its feasibilityin the teaching of vocational schools. This thesis presents a further discussion ofcooperative learning on the basis of its original theories. It analyzes the embodimentof study characteristics, teaching viewpoints, study viewpoints, the principles ofEnglish teaching and the teaching target that implemented the teaching strategiesunder cooperative learning. On this basis, it sums up the concrete teaching strategiesand teaching procedures of cooperative learning. Combining with the characteristicsof English teaching, the author turned it into four concrete teaching modes:whole-class teaching, individual work, group work and pair work.After one term experiment and the contrast of two questionnaires conducted inTianjin Bohai Vocational School, the results of which shows that the implementation of teaching strategy of cooperative learning can stimulate students' interests inlearning English, encourage them to participate the programs in English class,improve students' competence of English in listening, speaking, reading, writing andcultivate students' cooperative spirit.
