The evaluation of the ideological and political work level in colleges and universitiesis an essential section for higher education. As it is emphasized in the Suggestion onStrengthening and Improving Ideological and Political Education for University Studentsissued by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council of China, the ideological andpolitical work for university students shall be an important criterion for the assessmentover the running of colleges and universities, thus be brought into the assessment systemof the colleges and universities' CPC construction and education. Currently, theideological and political work in colleges and universities has not yet boasted a scientific,simple and practical evaluation system, and it lacks of an effective mechanism forinspection, supervision and evaluation over ideological and political work's quality, and italso lacks of an in-depth theoretical exploration about the evaluation of the ideologicaland political work in colleges and universities. Taking the perspective of dialecticalmaterialism, grounding on the situation of China's ideological and political work incolleges and universities, drawing on the experience of Chinese ancient thought of"morality" appraisal and the West's general evaluation model, referencing to Chinesemodern practice regarding to moral education in colleges and universities and basing onthe fundamental principles of educational evaluation, this paper suggests a criteria system,evaluation standards and implementation scheme for evaluation of the ideological andpolitical work in colleges and universities. Moreover, the author carries out a brand-newexploration over the construction and implementation of the evaluation system.
