Cultivating writing skills is being attached greater importance to in the English teaching. The study and practice of the English writing teaching are being perfected step by step in foreign countries. As a consequence, a series of effective writing teaching methods have been formed. In particular, the process teaching method has already been widely used in a lot of countries and achieved' very positive results. However, in the middle school English teaching in china,the teaching of writing has often been overlooked. The traditional product teaching method is often employed, and such situation has remained unchanged for many years. English teachers pay close attention to the writing product but neglect the writing process, Students' ability to write in English has not been improved effectively. Consequently, a good many students gradually lose their interest and confidence in writing, Some even avoid English writing. Although some teachers have made some explorations of English writing teaching, they seldom study the English writing process; they make even less study of the writing teaching method featuring autonomous learning and process teaching method in an English writing class.I personally propose that we should integrate autonomous learning and process teaching method, because these methods of teaching take students as the center of teaching and learning, thus probably enhancing students' interest and confidence in English writing and eventually helping students to improve their ability of writing in English. The target writing teaching method aims at creating a relaxing, free and favourable writing situation for students, and intends to develop students' learning autonomy in the writing process by means of diversified writing activities and guided students' writing practice at the different writing stages.To verify my hypothesis, I carried out an experiment in two senior 3 classes of Suizhou No.1 Middle School. A combination of autonomous learning and process teaching is applied to the teaching of English writing class. First, I made some relevant analysis of the writing academic records of the two classes before the experiment. In the light of the common problems that often occur in writing teaching I employ a combination of autonomous learning and process teaching in the experimental Class, whereas I still adopt the traditional product teaching approach in the control Class 8,The teaching experiment spans 4 months. The results show that 60% of the experimental class have improved writing ability while only 20% of the control class have made progress in their writing. Meanwhile, students in the experimental class show significantly. great interest in English writing than those in the control class. The study implies that the writing teaching method integrating autonomous learning with process teaching is an effective teaching method for senior English writing class in China. Therefore, teachers should help students to develop learning autonomy in their learning of English writing, and should help students raise their awareness of their English writing process.
