Reading ability, one of the most important factors in evaluating the students'language competence, plays a more and more important role in the English learning of high school students. Therefore, to find an appropriate reading teaching method is of great importance for English teachers. Psycholinguistics is an integration of the fields of psychology and linguistics. It provides the theoretical bases for the research in teaching methodology.From the perspective of psycholinguistics, this paper gives a detailed analysis of the factors which affect the reading comprehension of high school students. It includes factors affecting the comprehension of the lexicon, syntax, discourse, and even the internal hurdles of the students in the reading process. Based on the analysis, it also discusses the implications in the pedagogical field. Though there is no perfect way of language teaching and learning, we can make our efforts to help students overcome the difficulties in order to bring out the most effective outcome of reading teaching and learning.
