Individualism, a notion from which man views his own problems, regards the individual itself as the objective, possesses the ultimate values and represents man's ethics and morality and foundamental opinions of the values for his life. With the reform and opening-up and the gradual perfection of socialist market economy, man's understanding of individualism has changed. In today's China, the advances of the society requires correct values meeting the requirements of ethics and morality in order to facilitate the establishment of harmonious society and promote the construction of Chinese spiritual civilization and man's overall development. This thesis, from the perspective of the origin of individualism, the expression of individualism and its manifestation in present China, demonstrates that personal values fit for the development of present China should be established so as to promote the harmonious development of the society. Finally, the thesis discusses the problem of how to construct right personal values from such three aspects as the theoretical study, propaganda education and legislation construction.
