Traditionally, English writing guidance is in the form of training the students in a big class, where the teacher only asks the students to do writing by themselves or guides the students when the exam is around the corner, which, as a mater of fact, now can hardly meet the demand of the new teaching reform since it can neither optimize the writing process nor improve the students' writing ability. Thus many students' interest in writing is lost gradually and some of the students are even afraid of English writing.Cooperative Learning Method bases on team work of students, which can fully arouse every element of teachmg and learning system, thus encouraging learners to take an active part in cooperating with each other. The individual work as well as the team work will be valued as a whole. The theory of Cooperative Learning Method clearly meets the demand of the basic theory " Student's development is the center ".The initiation and practice of Cooperative Learning Method has got some achievement and shown its strong vitality in English course in high school, but its basic form and utilization in English writing class remains to be further studied and developed.This article starts with basic theory, analyzes contemporary problems existing in teaching English writing in high school, studies and practises the cooperative learning method in English writing. It can be said with certainty that students' writing ability will be improved by their cooperative learning habit, and their writing speed can be surely quickened. Guided in this way, students will be able to meet the demand of new English Curriculum Standard for Middle School as well as the demand of the new college entrance examination.
