Autonomy is the foundation of the right personality, it is the precondition of training students to carry on self-education. For the supreme realm, self-education is an effective method to train ability. As a higher education, university education emphasizes self-education. Self-education has great function to excite university student's potentiality, improve university student's comprehensive quality and protecting their mental health etc. University student's autonomy and self-education is inseparable, it is the basic of carrying on self-education. To know the developmental characteristics of university student's autonomy is the premise to improve university student's autonomy level, and it is a foundation for carrying on the right self-education.This research is on the basis of document survey, analyse 205 university student's open inventory survey, use item analysis and explorative factor analysis for 484 prediction questionnaires, edit the formal questionnaire of university student's autonomy. After investigating 1087 university student's by the formal questionnaire, alternately verifies that the questionnaire has good reliability and validity through the exploratory factor and confirmative factor analysis. At last, I confirmed that university student's autonomy structure including five dimensions: self-planning, self-innovation, self-responsibility, self-control and self -execution.Using the university student's autonomy questionnaire to find out the characteristics of university student's autonomy:1.There are significant differences among different grade in university student's autonomy level, freshman to junior is sharply descending, but senior experience a little increase.2.Senior is significant higher than freshmen in self-planning;freshmen is significant higher than senior and junior;freshmen and sophomore is significant higher than junior in self-execution.3.University students' autonomy level is significant different in sex, school boy is significant higher than school girl. School boy is significant higher than school girl in self-innovation and self-execution.4.University students' autonomy level is significant different in art andscience. the student majored in science is higher than the student majored in art. The student majored in science is significant higher than the student majored in art in self-innovation and self-control.5.There are not significant differences between three-year-term student and undergraduate's autonomy level in total. Three-year-term student is higher than undergraduates in self-control and self-execution.6.There are not significant differences in autonomy level between the university students that come from countryside and come from city.7.There are not significant differences between only-child and non-only-child in university student's autonomy level.
