The existing situation of senior reading teaching is that we get half the result with twice the effort.Some theories in discourse analysis such as schema , cohesion etc. are critically important in enhancing the reader's comprehension ability and improving their communicative competence. Therefore, the writter sets out to reseach and prove the function of how discourse analysis theories instruct English reading teaching and ponts out that assimilating the theories into reading teaching is an effective appoach to improve senior students'reading comprehension competence.The paper fist discusses its writing background ,purpose, significance and ponts out the importance of the article is that it strives to reform the status of overestimating grammar teaching. Then the paper states the defination and main features of text,main contents and current trents of discourse analysis .With certain examples she describe three main theories in the field and simultaneously she refers briefly to theories of reading and three teaching modes abroad.After that , the writter makes a survey ,concludes the present issue in English teaching and points out that the lack of systematic direction of teaching and discourse theories accounts for our low.The third chapter is the core of the thesis. The writter proposes the reading teaching pattern of"macrocosm—part—macrocosm"which combine the two tightly based on the discourse analysis theories and investigation. And with the specific texts, the writter elabrates on the application process of discourse analysis in senior English teaching. The aspects that we should cover are: background knowledge of the text; macrostructure; microstructure; theme一reheme structure and information structure. Then the author presents a sample to show the instructive significance to solving the problem and clarifies the application plan. Finally , the paper puts forward some strategies in view of the problems the pattern may come cross, making it posses operationality overcoming the difficulties in practising.
