An Investigation Of The Implementation Of Junior English Coursebook Go For It

Language is the most important communicative tool of mankind,and English is an important tool in today's international communication. Therefore,cultivating our students the ability to use English in communication is a major goal of English teaching.The original curriculum system and concepts have been changed utterly in the new curriculum reform of elementary education.Coursebooks are the core of the English teaching. Coursebooks determine the content and organization of teaching.Go for it has been used in Guiyang city since 2003.The goal of Go for it is to make language learning motivating and successful through a step-by-step progression that builds confidence and leads to open-ended activities where students can actively relate learning to their personal lives.It has many new teaching ideas and methods.It focuses on the students'communicative competence and linguistic competence.While admitting the fact that English teaching has greatly benefited from Go for it,we have to take some disadvanges into consideration so as to help improve both the quality of the newly published coursebooks and English teaching.By means of documents,questionnaire and interview this paper has a close look at Go for it and make an attempt to give some advice on how to make full use of it in western cities like Guiyang.This paper is mainly divided into four chapters.Challenges and questions of the teachers are mentioned in Chapter One.Chapter Two presents concept of coursebooks and the basic theory of designing coursebooks.It includes the qualities of Go for it.Chapter Three introduces the investigation and research of the use of the coursebook.Based on analysis of some real cases,Chapter Four deals with problems using the coursebooks and discusses the possible causes.It is hoped that this paper will bring some implications for the later researchers,and will be of some help to English teaching in junior schools.
