Grammar is an indispensable aspect of language. It is also an important and difficult part in Chinese secondary-school students' language learning. Traditionally, grammar is taught by 3ps approach (presentation, practice, production). It may be helpful for the elementary students in a way. However, the teaching activities that are designed to be teacher-centered are relatively dull and static and there is little interaction between the teacher and students. This approach proves to be ineffective and gives both teachers and students much stress.This thesis, from a new viewpoint, expounds task- based approach (hereinafter TBA) for the teaching of English grammar. TBA is supposed to be an effective method in promoting learners' language competence. However, empirical studies of its application are rarely found in the field of grammar teaching in China, especially in the senior secondary school. In this thesis, a research was conducted to probe into the validity and feasibility of TBA in grammar teaching in senior secondary school. The thesis provides a detailed study on the literature review of grammar, grammar teaching, task and TBA. It makes analysis of what is drawn from the experimental teaching, and designs a questionnaire to have feedback. The results show that TBA is an efficient and advanced approach. It proves that grammar teaching in TBA can have a better effect than traditional approach and at the same time it can facilitate the students' attitudes and motivations in grammar learning. The author asserts that TBA can be applied to grammar teaching in senior secondary school in china.
