| Two extreme tendencies do exist in the realistic English grammar instruction class:one is the traditional presentation, practice and production (PPP) approach, which lacks of developing the communicative competence (CP). On the contrary, the other tendency which avoids any English grammar teaching focuses too much on language fluency without paying attention to language accuracy. Therefore, nowadays more and more educators advocate task-based approach (TBA), an integrate way of the above two extreme tendencies, which can avoid the shortcomings of them.This study aims at identifying the effects of TBA English grammar teaching in the senior middle school. Therefore, an empirical research which combines qualitative and quantitative research is carried out in two Year Eleven classes in Laoshan No.1High School. With the combination of questionnaire, interview, classroom observation, a pre-test as well as a post-test, this research attempts to answer the following two questions:1) Compared with the traditional PPP approach, is the TBA to English grammar teaching in the senior middle school more effective in improving students’ English grammar level?2) Does the TBA to English grammar teaching in the senior middle school work better in enhancing the students’ interests and confidence in their English learning?According to the research results, this study finds that compared with the traditional PPP approach, TBA is more effective in senior middle school English grammar learning and teaching. Although there is no significant difference in improving students’ tests scores of English grammar, TBA has more obvious advantages to enhance the students’ interests and confidence in their English learning. |
