Foochow locates in the South-East seaside of China ,which boasts of her long human culture history and vast and numerous literature, which has attached importance to education in the past dynasties ,as well as one of cities opened to outside world most early in China modern history . In the latter-day , the development history of its education alternated by local government originating schools and church originating schools,especially church -managed schools carry more weight in history.Secondary education is the nucleus in education system at an area. The paper proceeds with the selected most famous and centuries-old three middle schools in Foochow even in Fujain Province: Foochow No.1 middle school,Foochow Anglo-Sino middle school,and Foochow Gezi middle school, to compare the education mode of the local public middle schools and church-managed middle schools. The selected three middle schools all have their own characteristic history and religious culture backgrouds. Everyone has its own strong points in education pattern and widely different campus literature. Over one hundred years ,they have evoluted on each tracks, pertinaciously continued characteristic spirits and traditions whether the civilization vicissitude and regime subrogation. Large quantities of talents in every walk of life had been broght up by the three middles chools in histoiry , the three middles chools lie in highest flight in Fujian education history .During the periods of the evening of Qing Danasty and Republic of China, history viewed Chinese education transfered from liberty and anarchism to absolution and systematization, China endured high frequent transforms and turbulences in education,this page of history has still affected Chinese education profoundly . The era bequeathed valuable experiences and enlightenments to later generations. The author has exerted with philological method,fielddiagnoses method,and visital mehtod (have interviewed with several graduates from the above three middle schools in the early Republic of China),acquired the first-handed and rare data. The paper is composed according to historical facts by objectively attitude.The paper expatiates carefully and precisely at the following eight aspects : the lenghth of schooling, curriculum installments,students administration,the qualities of teachers,teaching apparatus and instruments,examination institutions,moral educations,physical educations and entertainments after school to narrate and compare in order to have a restricted view of the above three schools hundred years-olded flourishing and brilliant accomplishment in that age.The history can mirror of the problems in reality. The paper has no intention to emphasis on the ancient as against contemporary. Consideration for characteristics of the past public-pattern middle schools and church-managed middle schools can give us revelation about current education reforms.
