Understanding is the individual person's comprehension of the object and the relationship between the object and himself. It involves different aspects, such as cognition, emotion and action. With the important educational meaning, understanding displays one's overall quality, connects one's mind with education, and spreads out of educational process. The process among which a person sets up the meaningful relationship between himself and the around world (including his world) is the process of understanding and receiving education.This paper probes the present states and the problems of the pupils' understanding by observing, informal interviewing and analyzing texts in the school. It holds that the problems are obvious, although the pupils' understanding seems initiative, free, overall and open. The pupils' understanding doesn't accord with their ages and identities. The angles of understanding are single. The range of its object is narrow. The standards of understanding are excessively unified. The conditions of understanding are not enough. The methods of understanding are lacked.According to the problems above, this paper gives five strategies to improve the pupils' understanding. Firstly, the pupils completely learn from their own experience, and the angles of their understanding get multiplied development. Secondly, the pupils live in their own world of daily life, and the range of their understanding object gets extensive development. Thirdly, we should reform the educational systems to conform the standards of their understanding get diverse development. Fourthly, the pupils are nurtured by their culture, and the conditions of their understanding get complete development. Lastly, we should recover the methods of the pupils' understanding.
