To develop students'ability of reading comprehention is the main object of the English teaching for senior middle school in our country, also the main test point . Nowadays,the full mark of the English paper for the college entrance examination is 150 scores,while the reading part occupies 75 scores.The whole grade of the synthetical test depends on the reading part,furthermore,it is just the weakest part for most students.Reading speed,the ability of searching for information,the ability of predicting or judging and so on all affect the students'reading quality.So how to make students read fast and efficiently turns to be a main object for English teachers to explore these years. Genre teaching method given in the 1990s,based on the whole discourse analysis,offers a new developing opportunity for English reading teaching.It goes beyond the traditional discourse analysis disadvantage which can only make students see the trees but not the forest,and it plays a great role in training students'discourse awareness and the ability to master a discourse,all this is supposed to be helpful in training students'language communicative competence. Genre teaching method, applying genre and genre analysis theory to the class teaching,develops teaching activities based on the discourse scheme structure ,its purpose is:(1) To make students know the discourses with different genres have different communicative purposes and discourse structures;(2) To make students know that the discourse is not only a linguistic construct,but also a social meaningful construct;(3) To enable students to master the scheme structure of a discourse,and understand the process of a discourse construct,this can help students understand or create a discourse with some genre(Qin Xiubai,2000)The effect made on the students'psychological awareness while reading by the genre teaching method can work on the students'understanding the discourse of a genre,and transfer it to the reading skill to advance the studens'teading fast and efficently.At present the teaching method is paid more attention to by the college reading teaching and has achieved good efficiency.But the method is ignored in senior reading class. To work with the genre analysis teaching method and to analyze,understand and summarize the discourse based on the whole discourse enable students to learn a relatively fixed method which can be referred to and relied upon,then it can improve the students'reading and writing ability.My paper aims to apply the genre teaching method to the English reading teaching of the senior middle school and presents the whole reading design.
