As we know that the reading teaching which shoulder the responsibility of developing students’ reading ability takes great part in the foreign teaching of the senior school. However, reflected on the reality of the reading teaching, we find that the result is far from satisfactory. It is just because the teacher take the traditional way to teach reading. This kind of the teaching way can not develop students’ reading ability, instead, frustrate students’ confidence toward the reading learning. The Genre-based approach is a method which gives lesson from the perspective of the genre of the discourse. It can improve students’ confidence in reading comprehension.The thesis can be divided into five parts. In the first part of the thesis:introductory part, the author introduces the following aspects directly related to the thesis. Such as: reasons for the thesis, meanings for the thesis, contents for the thesis, methods for the thesis; in the second part of the thesis, the author gives a detailed introduction about the Genre-based approach. It includes the definition of the genre, the comprehension of the genre analysis, schools of the genre-based approach. Most importantly, the advantages toward the reading teaching is specially put forward. The English teachers can get a wide knowledge from this part about the Genre-based approach. In the third part of the thesis, the author hopes to show the English teachers how can the Genre-based approach be used in the reading teaching of the senior school. The author takes four discourses of the different genres to design a real reading teaching case. Only in this way can teachers get an understanding of the Genre-based approach from two levels. In the last part of the thesis, the author put forward some suggestions to use effectively Genre-based approach in the reading teaching. In the end of the thesis, the author hopes the teachers can integrate the advantages of each reading method into own reading teaching to reach a satisfactory result and improve the ability of the reading.In a word, with the development of the linguistics, the method of the English teaching is changing gradually. So, the author think this thesis is very useful and pratical to change the reading teaching.
