Assessment is considered as a very significant factor of English teaching. How to use the educational assessment correctly is important for improving the teaching quality. Therefore in recent years, English teaching assessment reformation becomes an important realistic problem in English teaching reformation in China. The English curriculum of secondary vocational school is changing greatly in our country, whose guiding principles are to value the students' quality-oriented education and whose core is to stress regarding the person as the foundation, training the practical abilities and creative mind in order to base for students' long-life learning and development. Their teaching principles stress the students' abilities of using the comprehensive language, respecting the students' individual character and emotion, guiding the students to finish their studies by using the study tactics. This sets a still higher demand on the choice and the reforming of English classroom instruction and the methods of English teaching. However, we have lacked general analysis to traditional test and all-around comprehension to the meaning of learning assessment for many years. It means that there is a shortcoming in the field of assessment. Changing the assessment strategies had been the important parts in teaching reform of the secondary vocational school.This thesis looks back to the origin of the educational assessment and the present research on it at home and abroad. It also inquires into the theoretical basis of the pedagogy and psychology of the teaching assessment in terms of multiple intelligence theory and constructivist education principles. These advanced educational ideologies indicate the macro directions to the English teaching assessment reform. It also clarifies the implication and significance of English teaching assessment, and making an analysis and comparing and evaluation to the present teaching methods. English teaching assessment, an important part among English curriculum, plays a very important part during the development of English curriculum. This paper makes an analysis of these drawbacks by means of the literature approach and interviewing approach, and makes a study of the evaluating principle, contents and means with the English Curriculum Standard as the guide. The author here puts forward the measures of English teaching assessment which can promote students' development. The measures are of theoretical value and significance for practice.
