Incentive oral assessment has immediate significance in getting vocational students interested in English learning and improving their exam results. The thesis hopes to promote the English learning and teaching in vocational schools by researching incentive oral assessment.107senior grade one students of Nanxian Vocational School are regarded as subjects of the research. An experiment is carried out on the basis of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory and Krashen’s Affective Filter Hypothesis. Students of Class30are taught and evaluated by incentive oral assessment, while students of Class31are applied with a traditional teaching way. Prior to the experiment, all students are asked to take part in a questionnaire; meanwhile the two classes take the pre-test. After the experiment, a second questionnaire and the post-test are conducted. By a comparative analysis of the experimental data, it can be found that the incentive assessment enables students to become interested and motivated in learning, gain self-confidence and improve their exam results. Besides, a face-to-face interview is conducted among students of various levels. The interview results show that incentive oral assessment is popular among vocational students. The thesis analyzes the problems of teachers’and students’in English teaching and learning.
