In the past 25 years,reading theories and practices has seen dramatic improvements because of our growing understanding and accepting of the developments in psychology,linguistics,psycholinguistics and language teaching. Reading was first viewed as a rather passive decoding process.Later,people find that reading is not a passive decoding process,but an active"psycholinguistic guessing game"and an"Interactive"process.No matter whether the process is "Bottom-Up","Top-Down"or"Interactive"process,readers can't arrive at comprehension without their schematic knowledge.In fact,it is the readers' semantic and schematic knowledge working interactively together that makes them understand the meaning of a text.This study was an empirical one based on schema theory.It was about how schema theory could be applied to EFL reading class and how we could help the students activate the schemata stored in their minds and help them establish more new schemata.The experiment was designed to test the influence of a specific training technique based on schema theory for the students' English reading comprehension.â… conducted my study with utilizing the schema-oriented teaching method instead of present traditional lecturing method,which was usually adopted in reading class in our school.The experimental method in this study includes questionnaire survey,examination scoring comparison,interview and observation.Before the research,the selection of subjects,testing materials,research measurements were carefully designed.Data collections of testing scores and answers of questionnaires are collected with great care during the experimental period.After the experiment,integrated analysis of performance and statistical data is made by SPSS13.0.From the experiment,we got the following results:1)Schema-oriented teaching method can be used to improve senior students reading comprehension in high school.2)Utilizing schema-oriented teaching method in reading class can make students more active.So we concluded that this study is of great value in improving students' reading ability.
