Reading is not only the teaching content of English study , but also an efficient learning method and reading teaching plays an important role in the second language acquisition. The New English Curriculum Standards emphasizes strongly on developing students'reading abilities. At the same time , in the English test paper of University Entrance Examination, reading comprehension takes the largest part and holds the most socres, as well as the difficulty is increasing year by year. However, due to the shortcomings of traditional English reading teaching and lack some effective theories, sutdents always encounter lots of trouble in reading comprehension, which costs them a quite amount of time but have them make the most mistakes, consiquently, the whole mark of English paper will be affected.It seems very important to apply porper theory in the reading comprehension teaching in order to help high school students get a high score in the English test paper. Recently, there are many researchs on reading theories and among them the most famous one is schema theory. Schema theory is applied to explain the foreign language reading comprehension pyschological process. The essence of reading is to build porper schemas including language schema, content schema and rhetorical schema, which would be made full use of by high school English teachers in order to help students overcome the difficulties meeting in the reading comprehension and imporve their reading comprehension scores and ablilities.The thesis studies the appliance of schema theory in the high school reading comprehension teaching and finds out whether it has some influences on the reading comprehension score. The whole research is made up of three parts: pre-test, reading comprehension teaching experiment and post-test.After that, some comparison will be made between the average score and variation of the two tests'results and draw the conlusion. The research result turns out that the score in the experimental class is much higher than the control class, from which, it is easy for us to draw the conclusion that applying schema theory in the English reading comprehension teaching is able to raise students'mark in the English reading comprehension, imporve their reading ablilities, provoke their interest in readng and make them get a good reading habit.At last, some suggestions will be put forword for the English reading comprehension teaching.
