English,as a widely-accepted global language,has become the most important communicative tool in the world.It has become a consensus that English education should focus on elementary education.This thesis selects English elementary education content as its research perspective and makes a survey of existing problems of textbooks,designing a new system of textbook based on the theory of children's foreign language acquisition and content based instruction.Children's brains are in the condition of plasticity,large numbers of neuromuscular synapse are linking to form efficient neural networks which will achieve the development of high level cognitive function of language.Children have obvious physiological and mental superiority on language learning,but there are many problems among which the content of the textbook can not be ignored.This thesis makes a survey on existing English elementary textbooks and the results show the textbooks are primarily paying attention to the communication and this can not satisfy students' cognition needs.Content-Based Instruction can integrate language learning with subject contents learning. The language proficiency is realized by shifting the focus of instruction from the language learning itself to the language learning through the study of subject matter.Therefore,it is,in particular,suited to the language teaching in the real situation,paying more attention to the language function and improving the language ability.Content-based Instruction employs English at a comprehensible level so as to increase students' understanding of the subject matter and build language skills simultaneously.Ultimately,English as a tool could achieve its great value.Some areas in China have carried out English education which using English to teach other subjects,and have accumulated a lot of valuable experiences.But such education has high demand for teacher's quality and students' English level.In terms of situation of current elementary English education,it couldn't be brought into effect in short time.However,it is a tendency to combine English with other subjects.So the thesis proposes a new training of thought for teaching and learning content which possesses the advantages of foreign bilingual textbooks and traditional textbooks,and puts forward principles for a new textbook.The thesis also compiles the teaching content as an example.The textbook which is designed in this thesis is to attempt to serves as a bridge over the gap between traditional education and real bilingual instruction so as to improve the teaching efficiency in elementary English education.
