The teaching values are the criteria the teachers adopt during their teaching practice and the determinative elements of teachers' teaching behaviors, which serve as the guide lines for their teaching ways, the course contents and the teaching process as well. Different from the theoretical analysis on teaching values carried out so far, this dissertation, aiming to grasp the current conditions of Tujia education and based on the actual life of a Tujia village, carries out a study on a certain Tujia teacher's teaching values by the way of "from bottom to top". The purpose of this dissertation is to make my slight but steady contribution to the study of teaching values.By adopting the narrative method, this dissertation carries out long-lasted, in-depth, participant observation, interviews and material collections for a Tujia teacher to form a group of teaching stories of the teacher. The reshercher inquires the teacher's teaching values at the basis of the stories, and discloses the influencing elements of his teaching values by giving a description of the teacher's growing experiences. Above all, the reshercher shows the teacher's teaching values to readers completely. This dissertation shows that the teacher's teaching values have the following five characteristics: creating a lively atmosphere by the flexible teaching methods; the teaching process should be pleasurable; a good master of elementary knowledge is fundamental for study; teaching is to enhance the students' all-around abilities; showing to students how to be a good man by teaching. The reshercher's study on the teacher's growing experiences and discussion with the teacher show that the evolution of his teaching values has been influenced by the following factors: the unique humanism environments of Tujia nationality, the development of education, the formation of teacher's value on self-worth, and the teacher's experiences in and reflections on teaching .The study in this dissertation is authentic, situation-dependent, and somewhat subjective. The reader can see specific person in specific instances but may not be able to get a general view from the individual example, especially not "all Tujia teachers". However, the reader will be easily acquainted with the unique, vivid teaching values of the Tujia teacher, who, born in 1970s, lives in Tujia environment and at the same time accepts modern education, and get some inspirations and resonance.
