The Study On The Status Quo Of The Development Of Taekwondo In China

Along with the rapid development of modern society, sports has become an unalienable part of people's daily life. Athletics sports have got more and more attention. Taekwondo was first introduced to the world by Koreans. Using mainly legs as attack methods, it is not only enjoyable and fascinating, but also practical in fight. It is an elegant kind of martial art and an effective physical exercise way. Nowadays, this new sports item and exercise way has got a lot of youngster's love. Since it was named officially in 1955, taekwondo developed rapidly, was wide spread in the world. After decades of development, it has its official federation and international games. ITF was founded in 1966, and WTF was founded in 1973. At present, ITF has 159 members, and about 70 million person are practicing taekwondo.With taewondo's rapid development worldwide and admission by the Olympics Games in 2000, Chinese sports organization began to realize the importance and necessity to popularize taekwondo in China. At present, taekwondo has been brought into the Olympic Honor Plan of the Chinese General Administration of Sports. And many provinces have set up professional taekwondo teams. The numbers of teams and athletes are often the most among the individual sports tournaments. Chen zhong's golden medal in Sydney Olympics Games 2000 marked the great progress of Chinese taewondo sports level. Up to now, Chinese taekwondo athletics has got 5 single golden medals of the Olympic Games(including Taiwan), and tens of golden medals of intercontinental matchs. Inspired by Chinese players' excellent performance, Chinese mass taekwonddo come into the rapid development stage. Big and small clubs has emerged in China. Only in Beijing, Xi'an and Hangzhou, there are more than five hundred clubs, not including the taekwondo class held by the amateur sports schools. Based on informal calculation, the number of taekwondo participants has reached more than five million in China. The continuous development and nomalization of mass taekwondo built a solid foundation for athletical taekwondo. It can be predicted that the development of taekwondo in China has been in a favorable circumstances.On the other hand, we should realize that there are some problems and defects in the development of taekwondo. With the method of documentary compilement, logistics, interviews and mathematical statistics, this article make a detailed analysis on the roots,statement and problems of the taekwondo rapid development in China. Form two aspects of athletics taekwondo and mass taekwondo, the author makes the deep study and search for feasible countermeasures, proposals and theory basis for the healthy, orderly, sustainable and virtuous development of taekwondo in China.
