The Third Way: Cooperation And Autonomy

Since reform and opening-up, after 20 years of development, Chinese private higher education has become an important component of Chinese higher education since it developed as a supplement at the early stage of reform and opening, and formed two-phase structure with public higher education, and walked a renewable road away from dilemma. However, there are lots of problems in Chinese private higher education during the periods of groper and practice, reform and development, faced with challenges and dilemma, as it were hardship. To promote and develop practice needs the oretical guidance. Against this background, researchers have researched the reform and development of Chinese private higher education since reform and opening-up from different angles , and achieved many accomplishments, it is very useful and important to promote and develop practice further. However, the author think fundamental issues which restrict the development of our private higher education and even education are structural problems, namely triadic relation and structure of state, society and market. Because of especial history, culture, politics and so on, they have brought about overexpansion of politics, economic life and social life was politicalized seriously, market and society, especially civil society, social capital, nongovernmental and autonomous organizations underdeveloped. Differential and complementary structure of state, society and market has not formed really and truly, led to dilemma and barpque circle which we could not walk away from during the modernization. Politics and society are those, quite apart from education. After all, education is the product of specific historical stage, social background, the political environment and cultural soil, could not escape the political, social, and cultural influences and constraints ultimately. To fundamentally solve the problems and dilemma during the periods of reform and development, we must conduct a thorough reflection and transformation from the root, private higher education and so do. Therefore, the author tries to start to sum up reform and development of private higher education from reform and opening-up, be established in political science of The Third Way, civil society theory, education and social development theory and triadic relation, analyze Chinese social problem especially the problems of private higher education in reform and development, analyze the cause of the problems, on this basis, put forward tactics. This thesis was mainly consisted of four parts: The first part expounded Chinese private higher education's developments and problems during the period of The First Way, the second part expounded Chinese private higher education's developments and problems during the period of The Second Way, the third part analyzed the cause of problems, the forth part expounded the roles of state, civil society, market and private higher learning institution in The Third Way. The author think fundamental issues which restrict the development of our private higher education are structural problems, namely differential and complementary structure of state, society and market has not formed really and truly. In the new period, private higher education has to go the way in which state, civil society and market cooperate and enjoy autonomy, such private higher education can develop healthily, sustainably and rapidly.
