The concept of function plays a very important roll in the field of Math. It links the proceding with the following in the whole process of the function teaching in middle school. The concept of function including its thinking methods becomes one of the master lines of the Math teaching in middle school. For students, learning the concept of function means a great improvement which carries out the tansformation from the understanding of concrete stoichiometric relation in the realistic world to the understanding of abstract stoichiometric relation. However, teaching the concepet of function is tough because of its complexity.Basing on the formor studies of the function, with papar investigations and personal interviews, especially by investigating the undersanding towards the concept of function among the middle-school students who have learned the function, this essay acchives the following conclusions----First, middle-school students don't understand the defination of the function.Second,"Date"and"Graph"are departed in the mind of students before learning the function; accordingly, it's not esay to find the transform between the information in words, the information in graph, and so on.Third, middle-school students have certain abilities to apply the concept of function.Forth, for middle-school students, overally there is no obsvious difference in the development of congniton towards the function , although little differences do exist in some aspects.Fifth, for boys and girls in middle school, overally there is no obsvious difference in understanding the concept of function , although there are a bit defferences in different aspects.With exploring the study results further, combining the teaching experince, this theses offers the following improvement measures ----First, enhance understanding the entity of the concept of function;Second, enhance transforming among different express forms;Third, put more attention on function models in daily life.
