University teachers are the main force in the development of higher education and the key to training high-level personnel. The quality and level of the teaching staff have a direct impact on the teaching standards, the quality of scientific research and personnel training level of the institutes of higher education. Among the various resources in the universities, teachers are the most important. To a large extent, teachers'level represents the university level. Therefore, the management of university teachers is the core content of its management. And the possibility of establishing a scientific and rational and efficient contingent of teachers affects the overall educational quality and level of a university and is the key to the sustainable development of a country as well as to the survival of a university. Universities of Western developed countries attach great importance to the contingent of teachers by taking various measures to continuously improve the overall quality of teachers and their professional development. From the aspects of teachers'management mechanism in American institutes of higher education, this paper explores the cultivation, selection, training and professional development for teachers in the areas of mature experience and practice, with a view to providing useful enlightenments and references for China's teacher management at the college and university level.This paper consists of four components, namely the history of the teacher management mechanism in American institutes of higher education, the status of the mechanism, its causes and characteristics, the thoughts and enlightenments to China. Specifically the concrete is as follows:The first chapter deals with the three phases (beginning, developing and reforming) of the history of American college teachers'management mechanism. Simultaneously, a brief review and evaluation is made in this part.The second chapter analyzes and explores the status of American College teachers'management mechanism, conducts an in-dept study on it, that is, the appointment, evaluation, security, training, etc., and concludes the advantages of the management mechanism. At the same time, the existing problems and their impact factors in the management mechanism are specifically analyzedThe third Chapter evaluates the management mechanism with respect to its characteristics, causes and importance.The last chapter concerns the enlightenments of the U.S. college teacher management mechanism to China's ongoing university personnel management system reform. In this part, the author put forward his own viewpoints and suggestions on how to implement such a complex and systematic reform project.
