Since the 1970s', the emergence and development of cognitive psychology has laid a theoretic foundation for the research on learning strategies, which gained great attentions from both psychologists and linguistists. Based on the previous researches on the relationes between students' learning strategies and academic achievements, the research tries to focus on the relations between students' personality trait and English learning strategies in senior high school.The author's questionnaire consisting of 16PF ( Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire) and English learning strategy scale surveyed 196 students randomly chosen from all classes in senior one, Wuhan Foreign Languages School and 176 copies, being collected from the averagingly aged 15.09 students with 62 from boys and 114 from girls, were processed by the software Excel 2003 and SPSS (11.5 for windows).The study analysed the learning strategies using in boys and girls, comparing the correlations in the various strategies classified into: cognitive strategy, metacognitive strategy, communicative strategy and learning-resource strategy. Further more, the study also analysed the relations between students' personality trait and English learning strategies in senior high school and approved a high correlation between most personality trait factors and the sub-English learning strategies. Hopefully all this study will serve as a theoretic basis and actual reference in helping high school English teachers with their teaching improvement.This thesis is constituted by preface and seven chapters.Preface: the introduction to the whole research.Chapter One: Conceptions and classifications of personality trait and English learning strategies.Chapter Two: Domestic and international study on personality trait and English learning strategies.Chapter Three: The importance in researching on relations between students' personality trait and English learning strategies.Chapter Four: Research Planning.Chapter Five: Research data analysing.
