| Beam is the"easy practice, tough contest"course in woman gymnastics. Study shows, 96 times obvious faults during Beam Contests by 206 woman gymnasts, 85% cause by overstress, non-concentration, less confidence and other innormal mental activities. Successful performance on the beam, more depends on the stability of gymnastic techniques and mental states.The theory of Individual Zones of Optimal Functioning(IZOF) suggests that an athlete can perform up to his/her potential when his/her emotion is at the individually optimal level. Examinations of IZOF have revealed that athletes do maintain unique emotion-related performance zone, and, provided for the effectiveness of a mental training strategy to optimise precompetitive psychobiosocial states and improve competition performance.The shortcoming of previous research has also appeared 1) the results were derived from self-report measures only; 2) the results of non elite athletes and female athletes not support the IZOF theory.The thesis, taking anxiety intensity as the performance related emotion, taking elements'stability on the beam as performance, to examine multimodel measurement and assessment of IZOF by 5 National Rank 1 qualified female gymnasts in JiangSu Capital Gymnastic Team. The study is conducted by self-reports, behavioural observations and physiological recordings. Otherwise, to investigate the method of IZOF determination by traditional way and probabilistic estimation using real datum.The result supported the IZOF multimodel measurement. Anxiety intensity of young female gymnasts correlate with elements stability on the beam. The theory of IZOF not only apply to elite athletes, also apply to young and non-olympic athletes. The self report is not the only method to measure emotion, heart rate and skin conductance are also well in use of IZOF measurement as effective physiological indicators. The traditional method of mean plus or minus half standard deviation is applied to IZOF determination, and the application of the method by mean plus or minus Z score or probabilistic estimation, replies on if real data meets the statistic requirement.The thesis, provide the scientific approach and basis to help coaches acknowledge the athletes optimal emotion-performance zones and, properly manage precompetitive training and mental regulations for making athletes perform more close to optimal zones, far away from poorest zones. |
