The growth of a swimming athlete needs a long term and systematic training. Both the physical qualities and rational technical actions of a swimming athlete of high level are formed on the base of the refinement of every detail. Because swimming demands good sense of water and high flexibility and juveniles and children are just on the phase of growing, it is ideal for them to accept swimming training skills. Therefore, it is crucial to enhance the basic training for juveniles and children, for it directly affects the sustaining development of an athlete's sport ability. This proves that swimming training should begin from childhood. In competitive swimming, an individual medley consists of four swimming strokes, which requires the athletes fully develop the skills of butterfly stroke, backstroke, breast stroke and front crawl. They should also have high speed and endurance, the ability to switch their swimming strokes, and a strong willpower. The achievements of an athlete's individual medley as a juvenile or a child decides his further development. An American player Michael Phelps, who won seven gold medals in twelfth World Championship, has obtained his individual medley achivements only through a balanced development in the four swimming strokes in his childhood. The research on the medley relay training of juveniles and children in our country has made some progress. But there is no specific exposition as to how much the four swimming strokes affect the medley relay achievements. There is still dispute on different researches. Some major viewpoints are as follows: first, fully improve the four swimming strokes with focus on the weaker stroke; second, the breast stroke is most important to improve an athlete's total score of the individual medley; third, the backstroke is most important to improve an athlete's total score of the individual medley; fourth, focus on the stroke with high score.Strengthening the medley relay training of athletes of different age groups can prevent"isolated training"and the extrusion of some special achievement too early. The training forms and strokes of the medley relay for different age groups are so diverse as to avoid tediousness and dullness, which often occur in training, and to increase children's interest in swimming, which makes them insist on training. In medley relay training, they can be found in which stoke they have outstanding performance, which can lay a sound foundation for deciding their future specialty. The medley relay training gives great advantages to both the accumulation of quantity and the improvement of speed and endurance. This essay makes an investigation among the swimming athletes enrolled in regional juvenile sports school, aged from 9 to 16 years old (total sample size of 1584 cases). The classification is specified to age group, gender, and swimming strokes. Through literature study and expert interview, the relationship between different swimming strokes and the medley relay achievements has been verified. The inner discipline has been quantified with equation. The"relatively weak swimming stroke"has been found and waits for focus retraining. The ultimate goal is to achieve all-round development with the improvement of the medley relay achievements, which is known as attain two objectives or gain two advantages by a single move.
