In recent years, there are some studies on the self-concept, body self-concept, the relationship between physical activities and self-concept or body self-concept in our country. Although the conclusions are different because of the different kinds of scales, economy and culture backgrounds, they are all benefit to learn the characteristics of different people's self-concept, and give useful advice to improve people's self-concept. This paper takes Huai'an city as a study district. It not only promotes the development of this field in Huai'an, but also supplies theory and practical foundations to the Physical Education and Health Curriculum Standard. It also could support the physical course reform in Huai'an city from theory aspect and improve the students' health in body and mind.This paper takes middle school students from key schools and common schools in Huai'an city as study objects. At the same time, it takes The Development of Physical Activities in Middle School of Huai'an City, Physical Self-Description Questionnaire and Tennessee Self-Concept Scale as study tools. The author hands out 1300 questionnaire and takes back 1250, and the rate of callback gets to 96%. There is 1214 valid questionnaire, so the rate of validity gets 94%. The questionnaire includes 748 from key schools and 466 from common schools. It also includes 635 from boy students and 579 from girl students. At the same time, it gets 396 from grade one, 453 from grade two and 365 from grade three. The study gets the following conclusions:1. Generally speaking, the healthy and self-esteem of middle school students in Huai'an get a comparatively higher lever. However, their physical activities don't get a medium level.2. There is not very apparently different on healthy between key school students and common school students, while in other aspects of body self-concept show apparently different. Boy students and girl students show apparent variation in all aspects of body self-concept. The differences of three grades students show in the following aspects: coordination, physical activities, body fat, general physical and appearance.3. Students' interest on physical lessons has great effect on all aspects of body self-concept, while their interest on physical activities which not held in physical lessons and their parents' attitude to students to take part in physical activities have no effect on body fat of body self-concept but the other aspects.4. Generally speaking, the self-concept of middle school students in Huai'an city gets a better level.5. There is not apparently difference on self-criticism of self-concept between key school students and common school students, while apparent differences appear in other aspects. The main differences show in personal self-concept, moral self-concept, self-criticism and satisfaction between boy students and girl students. There are not major variations in moral self-concept and identity but other aspects among different grades.6. Students' interest on physical lessons has no great effect on moral self-concept but the other aspects, while their interest on extracurricular activities and their parents' attitude have great effect on all aspect of self-concept.7. Physical activities have positive effect on middle school students' self-concept, especially on personal self-concept and social self-concept.
