Science plays an important role in national development and people's daily life, which requires that the schools have good scientific literacy trainings for the future scientists and citizens. However, there are some problems with the current science education in scientific literacy training. As secondary school science teachers, who is one of the most important factors about the effectiveness of teaching. To a great extent, the students' improvement of scientific literacy was affected by the teachers' teaching in classroom.This study based on the "science teacher questionnaire" of "Eight Nations Education Research Project". It investigates grades 6-10 science teachers of 83 secondary schools in China's 27 provinces and cities (related to 4 subjects: integrated science, biology, physics and chemistry). This investigation involves four dimensions: (1) The understanding of science teachers about science, and science teaching and learning, (2) The characteristics and the use of textbooks as well as other teaching resources, (3) The methods and means of science teaching and learning in classroom, (4) The evaluation methods of science teaching and their function. The author analyzed the status of science teaching and the existing problems on the basis of statistical data, and then proposed suggestions of promoting the effectiveness of science teaching.This paper consists of four chapters:Chapter one: A statement of the theme, purposes, ways and meanings of this research.Chapter two: A literature review about factors which impact the effectiveness of science teaching, determining the investigation variables of this research.Chapter three: Analyzing statistic data from "science teacher questionnaire", obtaining all the survey results.Chapter four: Reaching conclusions about the status of China's science teachers' teaching at four dimensions, and then putting forward 12 suggestions which may help to enhance the effectiveness of science teaching. |
