Study On College Students' Tuition Default And Measures

Tuition of college students is a headache for most Chinese universities. It not only affects the universities in regular financial operations but also their teaching and research administration. This paper makes an exploration of the subjective and objective causes of tuition default, and it also offers a number of effective measures for the universities to adopt in solving this problem, provided that the no essential changes are made in the external circumstances.The paper proceeds from three points. It first gives a profile of the current situation of tuition default of the college students in China and the related government policies; then it analyzes the causes of the tuition default. An investigation based questionnaires is made on the objective and subjective causes of the tuition default. Finally, the paper proposes solutions into this problem, based on the condition that no external changes are introduced for this issue.N-University here is taken as a sample for the research- The questionnaires focus on such issues as the students' understanding of the tuition and the funding policies of the government, overall situation of the tuition default, and the credibility status of the students. The paper holds that family financial difficulty constitutes the objective cause for tuition default, while those who are able to pay the tuition spend their money for other purposes either because of credibility default, or because they are under the influence of the students who do not pay the tuition or under the spell of unhealthy consumption trends.The paper holds that this problem can be well handled if the universities on the one hand offer funding to the students from families with financial difficulties; on the other hand give them education on credibility, self-reliance, and self- respect.In tacking this problem, the paper holds that the universities should on the one hand be active in funding the students with financial difficulties, on the other hand make enforceable stipulations. Different departments of the universities should cooperate in tuition collection. The relevant departments should bear specified responsibilities and strict measures be exercised for the default students. Finally, credibility education, self-reliance education, and responsibility education are also indispensable for the solving of this problem.
