With the development of modern transportation and communication technology, distance around the world has been narrowed. Since China hosted the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2010 Shanghai Expo, the connection between China and the world has been becoming increasingly close. As an official language used by most countries, English plays an important role in international communication. Without learning the culture, one can not master a language. The close relation between language and culture determines that language teaching is culture teaching and foreign language communication is intercultural communication. As the transition period between middle school and university, senior high school is essential for teachers to form students' intercultural communicative competence. In 2003, The National English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School guided by Chinese Ministry of Education raised high demand on students' intercultural communicative competence.The curriculum reform has been carried out for more than ten years. How is the senior high school students' intercultural communicative competence at present? Taking a provincial key senior high school in Haikou for instance, this thesis aims to explore senior high school students' intercultural communicative competence. Questionnaires, test and interviewing methods are used to investigate the issue. The results of data analysis indicate that the senior high school students' intercultural communicative competence is poor and worrying. Then the author explores the reasons that caused current situation from intercultural communicative awareness, intercultural communicative knowledge and intercultural communicative competence. After that, suggestions were given to promote students' intercultural communicative competence and to lay a solid foundation for cultivating international talents.
