English is a foreign language. There are many factors which influence foreign language learning. There are intimate relationships between the application of the learning strategies and English achievements under the similarities of intelligence, mentality and good students. Accurate and effective learning strategies are inseparable from the outcome.This article elaborates the implications, types and characteristics of learning strategies systematically, and the four types of the strategies impact the middle school students achievements actively. Also, it points how the teachers train up the students the four strategies. To study the strategies of Wuhan Middle School students, we can find the relevance between the application of the learning strategies and English achievements, we can help the students realize the importance of the learning strategies, and know about their own usage of the strategies, and lead students to monitor and self-exam their strategies, and adjust their strategies according to their demands, so that we can improve students' achievements and foster students' lifelong capacities. Simultaneously, the teachers should renew their knowledge, know the latest achievements in the learning strategies, deeply understand all kinds of theories and methods, value students' development, grasp English teaching core, ease off students' burden, and build up lively teaching patterns.According to Curriculum Norms, this author makes a survey on the learning strategies of 22 students in Grade 1,Wuhan Xinhuaxialu Middle School, with the quantitive and qualitive research methods. It shows:1) The overall strategies level of the junior students is general. They use cognitive strategy best, but social strategy worst. They master the ordinary strategy better which applies to different subjects and which they can do it by themselves, but they master the specific strategy and which needs to cooperate with others worse.2) the level which the better students use the four strategies is higher than that of the worse students. Learning strategies is the important factor which influences students' achievements.3) The achievement is obviously relevant with learning strategy. Cognitive strategy has a great influence on English nowadays.
