In the 20th century, the rapid development of biotechnology had a major impact on the society. In particular, the development of genetically modified food (GM food) has made remarkable achievement and obtained huge economic effect in a short period of just over 10 years. However, an international debate about the GM food is growing in intensity, which, to a large extent, affected the consumer's attitude towards GM food. Thus, different groups (such as high school students) will form a different attitude, because of different cognition of GM food. According to the theory of cognition and attitude formation, this paper focuses on how to guide students to understand GM food properly by learning the related biology knowledge in high school. The main objective of the paper is to investigate the cause on Suzhou senior school students' attitude towards GM food. By analyzing mass investigation data, the following conclusions have been drawn. Firstly, senior students have a low level of cognitive and acceptance attitude towards GM food. Secondly, the cognitive level significantly affected the formation of attitude towards GM food. That is, the higher level of cognition the students have, the clearer attitude they may form.Due to the simplex variable chosen in the research and the limited survey samples, a long-term and further study should be conducted to help us understand the subject comprehensively and objectively.
