Nowadays, we gradually pay attention to teachers' obtainment of theoretical qualities in order to promote their professional development; attach importance to the communication and sharing of teaching experience between teachers in an effort to guide their teaching activities better. However, the studies of teaching methods are neglected comparatively. As a matter of fact, the significance of teaching methods to teachers and their teaching is obvious. From recent times, as the system of class teaching is established, teaching methods have performed a great function in teaching activities, especially during the Republic of China. This paper adopted documents reading approach.Through the general analysis about teaching, this paper points out that teaching methods are one of the main factors which would influence teaching, and also deals with teaching methods from conception,historical development in China and elements that effect teaching.Taking the period of the Republican China for example, this paper profoundly analyses the meaning of teaching methods to teachers' activities from two conditions: one is that teaching methods should be used throughout teaching process and the other is that they have already been applied on different levels in teaching reality.This paper indicates that focus on teaching is an important embodiment of teachers' professional development while teaching methods is extremely effective for teaching activities. That means teachers should grasp the essence of teaching methods,explore the location of them and make use of practical wisdom during teaching process. On the other hand, teachers need to give attention to teaching methods on both emphatic angles: teaching and learning.
