Mass media, as an important part of social organism, plays an important role in the advancement of Chinese female. However, it is impossible for all the mass media to present the positive, various and authentic female images and roles in the male-centered society. In 1995, the UN 4th conference on women was held in Beijing."Women and mass media"has become one of the twelve most concerned fields in the《Platform for Action》. After that, the studies on female and mass media have been developed. Over ten years has passed since the opening of the world conference on women in 1995. There is a question whether the situation of mass media on women reports has changed or not. The paper takes People's Daily as an example and analyses 26 newspaper samples on women reports in People's Daily, every March 8th to March11th, from 1996 to 2008. It is found that in quantity women reports are much less than men reports. In the content of news reports, women's important roles in all kinds of fields can be shown, but more or less women's stereotypes are also reflected in People's Daily. Three problems of women reports in People's Daily have been explored. Some consideration about how to realize the gender equality in news report are taken into, hoping that sensitive sense of social gender and strong social responsibility in mass media should be set up, and that women's influence in mass media should be enforced to promote their progress, and that real gender equality should be realized in mass media, even in the whole social culture.
